Tullah is not properly considered to be part of the Tarkine and therefore we did not allocate time to explore the area.
However, blog followers may be interested in two walks:
- Mt Murchison is the highest point on the West Coast and by all accounts this mountain has fantastic views from the top. A fairly strenuous walk of around 5 hours return starts south of the Tullah township. Detailed information, including the starting point and the nature of the track, can be read here. A second walk report can be read here.
- The track to the summit of Mt Farrell heads east from Tullah. This 3-hour return walk is reported as being well marked and easy to follow. Bushwalk Australia’s website provides additional information and photos.
A scenic drive to the Mackintosh and Tullabardine Dams should offer beautiful lake views.
These three activities sit on our wish list for when we return to the area. Next time for variety, we may stay at the Tullah Tavern or pitch a tent.
